while one can accept that stupidity is a universal trait, there must also be an awareness that the author himself would not be sitting, supported by sufficient leisure, able to pen this piece deriding all that we have become, were it not for the industrial support system our “Anglo’ heritage has built.

Yes, it’s a dead end, (literally I fear). No doubt about that, but finger wagging at what put you where you are is the literal equivalent of sawing off the branch you are sitting on.

We saw no mistakes to begin with, because all humankind is imbued with the same driving force, that of gain. (and immortality)

Why is gain so important (while being reprehensible)?

Because we are here to perform 2 functions, that of eating and reproduction. The better our supply of resources, the better our chances of reproduction. So that is what we do.

Feeding and fornication. As nature requires all species to do, and which homo sapiens, has, for the moment excelled at, for no better reason than we tapped into the resources of fossilised sunlight to help us do it. It is perhaps no coincidence that USA slavery ended, and commercially viable oil discovery occurred in the same decade.

We traded the human-slave system for an oil-slave system. That did not remove our traits of unversal greed. We found we could drive our oil engines far harder than human engines.

A human slave-engine took 20 years to grow. An oil engine can be produced in minutes. That is the basis of our self destruction.

Saying that it was a mistake we should have been aware of is to lend credence to our overall idiocy — -our ‘progress’, once started could not be stopped, because natural instinct would not allow it to be stopped.

We will go on until forced to stop by nature herself when we there is nothing left to burn.

Still, the fire was good to dance around, while it lasted
