ultimately, the working class must work to live

that is what they do and have always done. Not denigration — just statement of fact.

they do not, as a rule think beyond the end of their partricular instrument of labour.

however they constitute the biggest segment of the mass vote, and as such must be cultivated, if only for the short term; but of course their memories are short term, and politicians know this. So their short term needs are catered to, derived from the short term promises they are required to accept in exchange for votes.

So they remain convinced that prosperity is just a matter of voting for it. And they obediently vote for the one who offers the most immediate level of fresh prosperity in the immediate future.

they also vote for the clown who stirs their emotions of being ‘wronged’ by external forces — — -the other’ people who have taken their jobs and homes. irrespective of the truth of it. The average worker does not, and cannot accept that he is selling his own life in return for those short term non existent promisises of prosperity.

They want to remove those obstacles to future wealth, and the fascist demagogue arises offering to give this. The clowns in the thirties drove their nations to destruction doing exactly as I’ve described above. They did it by consuming resources that required looting other nations. That loot was to be the support system for infinite prosperity in the home nation. (1000 year Reich? They lapped it up)

Now the looting is of the home territory itself, where the 90% underclass exists to support the 10% elite, (maybe even 95/5%) whose resource grab gets bigger every year, while the underclass gets pushed further back down into poverty.

But the worker goes on working, because he has no option but to believe promises made in return for support of the fascist state.

He is not aware of the tightening bonds of slavery closing around him, and the end of his fantasy of democracy. He abandons the left because the extreme right offers a promise that he does not recognise as false
