The USA has imported its own fascism.
The autocrat has always had god on his side. A new dictator will always rise to replace the old one,
Over the past 2 centuries, the warring states of Europe (and elsewhere) shipped their excess across the Atlantic to create a ‘new nation’ free of the rivalries of the remains of the old Roman Empire, which had torn itself apart for over a thousand years.
For that thousand years and more, fascism had been the norm for those warring states . Monarchical rule was absolute. Security of life was unheard of. Care for your fellow man a ludicrous concept. Democracy could not and did not exist. Serfdom was effectively the lot of most.
As the USA opened up, the peoples of every nation uprooted themselves and took ship across the Atlantic, carrying within them the antagonistic seeds of past ages.
The new lands in which they planted themselves were infinite in their bounty. Food enough to feed the world, resources enough to supply every need. The vast lands of the USA were rendered into profit. The earth itself became property and took on a monetary value.
Democracy could thrive, and worked fine as long as there was ‘excess’ for most. This did not include the underclasses of course. They were of no consequence in the drive for ‘plenty’.
We are now at the stage where that excess is seen to be finite after all, while at the same time the demand for ‘more’ grows rampant each year. A refusal to accept that the party really is over. The insanity we are witnessing is the insanity of denial, and the conflicts in the minds of the peoples brought together from of old Europe over the last two centuries are reasserting themselves in this New World.
The old states of Europe were in a constant state of conflict, as each fascist entity sought to grab the resources of its neighbours, or fought factions within itself for the same reasons. They too were in denial. With gullible peoples led to believe that they were being denied what ‘others’ possessed and that it was theirs by right of god and conquest.
Does this sound familiar? It should, the correlation is exact.
In old Europe, autocratic rulers subverted resources to build castles and palaces,
while the peasants who supported them lived hand to mouth. They too were given promises of infinite prosperity.
The seeds brought from old Europe have germinated and are now bearing fruit: democracy can thrive only so long as it can be fed with an infinity of plenty.
This is what we are witnessing now in the United States. The concept of democracy is dissolving because there isn’t sufficient resources to keep it alive. Money must be borrowed to maintain the illusion of stability, in denial of the reality that oil itself, (though still plentiful) is becoming unaffordable to those who need its energy most.
This is why we have foodbanks.
The USA in its current form is only about 150 years old and has not had time to meld itself into a coherent nation. And as an accellerated version of old Europe, is already tearing itself apart in a desperate scramble to find sufficient resources to hold itself together.
The American dream is over.
In past times the Germans, French, Spanish, English et al could declare wars to grab what they needed, that is no longer possible. Even the oilwars of the late 20th c were seen as fruitless. Energy grabs ultimately give a negative return.
This is why America never became part of the modern world, and never will. It is a transplant of the old world, writ large, still fighting the quarrels that started there. And there are no new lands to migrate to.
