pursuit of happiness is a myth

humankind, and all other species, pursue survival — -happiness is the briefly interlude some of us find between periods of survival activity

this has been masked by cheap surplus energy in the last 2 centuries — -before then there was little scope for relaxed happiness unless you owned a few hundred serfs
