our economic system is like skimming a flat stone across a pond
you impart the energy into the stone (the muscle in your arm), take aim (at the future) then throw the stone
you get a kick out of seeing how many bounces you can manage — (I always do)
but the laws of physics are inflexible. You get two or three big bounces as the stone hits the water, but each bounce gets less the farther the stone travels,
The bounces get closer and closer as the stone lifts less and less, until finally the stone sinks without trace. Look back on our financial crashes — they get closer and closer, and we lift away less and less.
Which is where we are right now. The last bounce might have been our final one. There is no energy being imparted into the skimming stone of our economy.
we have enjoyed the fantasy of ignoring the laws of physics, told ourselves that they did not apply to us, the chosen people.
It looks like we are going to sink without trace
