i would put it more starkly:
that every species has a defence mechanism. And every species can communicate with its own kind, and carries awareness of threat.
The biosphere that sustains us has recognised us as a threat to environmental stability, and zoonotic outbreaks of diseases are the visible manifestations of that defense system.
We intrude onto their patch at our peril.
We are the new kids on the block. Viruses and bacteria have been around for billions of years. They know how to look after their planet far better than we ever will.
They know how to deal with pretenders who think they own the planet, and decide to parcel it up and sell it.
