I try to offer realism. I also reduce concepts to raw fundamentals without emotion fantasy or wishful thinking
as I pointed out, fusion will — maybe — -deliver electricity.
electricity has no use unless it is put to work. It isnt possible to create a fusion reactor outside a hydrocarbon based society, If we don’t do it during this generation, the next will not have the means to support such fantasies. Fusion is always 20 years away
Work, ie — something that gives a usable return on employment, is the means by which we rework compounds and elements to create usable objects which we buy and sell to each other.
if we cannot sustain that, we become grazing animals, or at best hunter-gatherers
We know the elemental table, it is the same throughout the universe. Kryptonite does not exist. So we must make do with what we have, and the depletion rates of stuff are freely available online.
Elon Musk might have $20bn and blow a few $Bn on space flight, but that’s all he’s doing — -blowing it, like you or I might let off fireworks at a new years party — -with as much use. At least Gates tries to use his money sensibly.
Space flight/exploration consumes energy, it does not create it. It is 99% futile other than for satellite navigation etc
Imagine a habitable planet — -do you imagine we could go there and start over?
There are just too many of us. The solution to that is ultimately out of our hands
