i take your points Seth
but expecting ‘’technology’’ to fix things is a dead end
‘’technology’’ has been a function of cheap surplus energy
it doesn’t work the other way round — -technology cannot substitute for cheap energy, and car production is the same process no matter what the drive system;….. bodies, wheels, interior and so on.
then we get to the final problem, that the ultimate purpose of wheeled transport is to sustain/assist employment — -ie to keep us all in jobs
fossil fuels are used to obtain/convert raw materials into ‘’stuff’’ that we buy and sell to one another……it’s called our commercial infrastructure. Wages cannot exist without energy input
almost every object we use contains within it a component of oil coal or gas. there are no substitutes for most applications
remove that, and our commercial ‘’system’’ ceases to exist
when that happens there will be no employment requiring the use of powered vehicles (we cannot afford vehicles just for liesure purposes)
Our current civilised existence can be summed up in 7 words:
conversion of explosive forces into rotary motion.
remove that and we are back at the economic level of the farmcart and sailing ship
