Fascism cannot thrive in a prosperous society

A full belly, a warm home and adequate wages is the wrong breeding ground for it. Check back over the rise of extremism (by any name) and it will have grown out of poverty and desperation of the majority.

They are sold the Ponzi scheme of fascism each time, and they fall for it each time, convinced by the rhetoric of demagogues who offer a return to a future built on a past that never existed.

It seems to be a human condition, a longing for a utopia that is either just out of reach, or has just faded into a mythical past.

Utopia is never here, now. But the fascist leader must offer hope that it can and will be.
