democracy is the child of prosperity.

Without prosperity, democracy will become a starving orphan. Why? because we have enjoyed a century or so where people have enjoyed a greater degree of affluence than their forefathers. That has not been a product of our innate genius, but access to seemingly unlimited energy in to form of coal oil and gas.

That delivered our collective prosperity, and allowed us to enjoy a democratic lifestyle.

The current flow of government process recognises that our access to cheap surplus energy cannot be sustained. As we lose access to cheap fuels, the result will be social chaos, the inevitable introduction of martial law and military dictatorship.

The constitution will be discarded as irrelevant
