as with all species, humankind evolved to graze the land we lived on, consume the products of that land, reproce ourselves and return ourselves into that cycle.

but to quote prof Albert Bartlett:

We pulled off the neat trick of turning petroleum into food

we discovered how to break that cycle, and how to consume the fossilised products of ancient sunlight. We bred economists and politicians, who told us it was forever.

And of course we believed them

We are no longer consuming just the products of current sunlight.

We are now living through the supernova of our existence. A brief flash of heat and light, before we return into the darkness whence we came.
